Central Ohio guitarist Tim Cummiskey performs as both a leader and
a sideman throughout the Midwest. Tim currently leads several groups
ranging from solo jazz and classical guitar to group configurations including
duos, The Tim Cummiskey Trio, and The Tim Cummiskey Quartet. As a sideman,
Tim has performed and/or conducted clinics with John Abercrombie, Howard
Alden, Carl Allen, Gene Bertoncini, Chris Buzzelli, Benny Golson, Tim Hagans,
Ingrid Jensen, Hank Marr and Frank Vignola. Tim also regularly works
with veteran Ohio musicians including Hank Marr, Vince Andrews, Chris Berg,
Paul Brown, Tom Carroll, Jimmy Cook, Bobby Floyd, Don Hales, Jeff Halsey,
Ola Hansen, Jim Masters, Tony Monaco, Gene Parker, Kim Pensyl,
Dave Powers, Guy Remonko, Russ Schmidt, Stan Smith, Gene Walker and others.
In addition, Tim has conducted clinics at the annual convention of The International
Association of Jazz Educators, Bowling Green State University, The Ohio
State University, Capital University, Denison University and Kenyon College.
Tim's first recording as a leader, "Alone Together" on the Cojazz
label, features Chris Berg on bass and Jim Rupp on drums. He has also
appeared on numerous recordings as a sideman.
Tim currently serves as a member of the Jazz Studies faculty of
the Ohio State University School of Music and the music faculty of Kenyon
College.
Tim is also a contributing writer to Downbeat Magazine and Just
Jazz Guitar Magazine. He is also a featured player in the May edition
of 20th Century Guitar Magazine.
After studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston in the
early 90's, Tim received his Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Studies from
Capital University 1994. In 1996, Tim received his Masters Degree in
Guitar Performance from Bowling Green State University. Tim's collegiate
career was highlighted by numerous academic and performance awards as well
as appearances as featured performer at numerous jazz festivals.
